OXNARD, California — Von Miller’s one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys is worth $5.5 million, but the veteran pass rusher can earn another $2 million if he reaches the highest incentive threshold.

According to Todd Archer, Miller’s deal includes a $3 million signing bonus, a $1.5 million base salary and $1.2 million in active roster bonuses. The contract also includes four voidable years. The remaining $2 million is tied directly to Miller’s sack production and the Cowboys reaching the playoffs.

The incentives are structured as follows:

  • $500,000 for 8 sacks and the playoffs
  • $1 million for 10 sacks and the playoffs
  • $1.5 million for 12 sacks and the playoffs
  • $2 million for 14 sacks and the playoffs

That means Miller would reach the contract’s full $7.5 million value by recording 14 sacks while helping Dallas reach the postseason.

The structure gives Miller a substantial opportunity to increase his earnings while allowing the Cowboys to tie the additional money to both individual production and team success.

Miller enters the season, after the Cowboys cut wide receiver Traeshon Holden, as one of the most experienced pass rushers on Dallas’ roster. The Cowboys will be counting on him to contribute to a defensive front that has undergone significant investment this offseason.

Cowboys’ updated salary cap situation after Von Miller’s $5.5 million contract

The Cowboys currently have $19.3 million in team cap space, with $269.56 million in top-51 cap liabilities.

Interestingly, Miller is currently listed with a $0 cap number on the Cowboys’ Over The Cap page, meaning the full cap accounting for his contract has not yet been reflected in the site’s current figures. Dallas also has $42.49 million in dead money and another $1.8 million in injured reserve cap charges.

The Cowboys’ largest current cap charges include Dak Prescott at $43.51 million, George Pickens at $27.30 million, CeeDee Lamb at $19.15 million and DaRon Bland at $17.02 million.

With roughly $19.3 million in available space before Miller’s contract is fully accounted for, Dallas still has some financial flexibility heading into the 2026 season. The final cap impact of Miller’s deal will depend on how the contract is officially processed and how the incentives are classified for salary-cap purposes.

Miller’s longstanding connection with the Cowboys

Miller’s arrival in Dallas carries more significance than simply adding another veteran defender. The Texas native has spoken openly about his lifelong connection to the Cowboys and his childhood dream of playing for the team.

Now, after years of an NFL career that includes a Super Bowl title and multiple Pro Bowl selections, Miller has finally landed in Dallas. The Cowboys are hoping the 37-year-old can provide experienced leadership and contribute to a pass rush that will rely on multiple players to generate pressure in 2026.
