The Dallas Cowboys have made another major addition to their defense, agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran pass rusher Von Miller, the team announced Sunday night. As reporters had already predicted, Miller gave multiple signs before signing a deal.
Miller, 37, is entering his 15th NFL season and brings one of the most accomplished résumés in football to Dallas. He has recorded 138.5 career sacks, the most among active players, while earning eight Pro Bowl selections and seven first or second team All-Pro honors. But before signing a deal on Sunday, Miller had been working out near The Star in Texas and was practically convincing the Dallas team and Jerry Jones to sign him multiple times.
“Hereee Weee Gooo,” Miller posted on social media after the agreement, along with an image of himself wearing a Cowboys uniform. The move brings Miller back to his home state. He attended DeSoto High School before playing college football at Texas A&M, and he now has an opportunity to finish his career with the Cowboys.

Miller is coming off a productive 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, recording nine sacks. That was his highest sack total since 2021, when he finished with 9.5 sacks while splitting the season between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams.
His role in Dallas, however, is expected to be different from the one he had during the prime of his career. The Cowboys are not signing Miller to be an every-down defender. Instead, Dallas can use him in a pass-rushing rotation and deploy him in situations where his experience and ability to pressure quarterbacks can make the biggest difference.
Miller joins a defensive front that already includes Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and first-round pick Malachi Lawrence. Sam Williams, James Houston, and Marist Liufau could also compete for snaps in the rotation.
The addition also reunites Miller with Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker. The two spent part of a season together in Denver before Miller was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
That familiarity could be important for Dallas as Parker begins his first season running the Cowboys’ defense.
Miller’s career résumé is difficult to match. The 2011 first-round pick won Defensive Rookie of the Year, earned seven first or second-team All-Pro selections, and won two Super Bowl rings. He was also named MVP of Super Bowl 50 after dominating the Carolina Panthers during Denver’s championship victory.

He later spent three seasons with the Buffalo Bills before joining Washington. A torn ACL suffered during the 2022 season limited him for an extended period, but his production last season demonstrated that he can still create problems for opposing offensive lines.
The Cowboys have been aggressive in strengthening their defense in recent days. Dallas signed defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to a three-year, $105.9 million extension last week, and the addition of Miller gives the front seven another proven veteran.
Miller also has another personal connection to the Cowboys through Hall of Fame pass rusher DeMarcus Ware. Ware served as a mentor to Miller early in his career, and Miller now has an opportunity to provide a similar veteran presence for Dallas’ younger pass rushers.
An intriguing piece of history is at stake
Miller’s 138.5 career sacks have him tied with Ware for ninth on the NFL’s official all-time sack list. Four sacks in 2026 would move Miller past Terrell Suggs, Jason Taylor, and Michael Strahan and into sixth place.
For the Cowboys, though, Miller’s individual milestones are secondary to what he can provide on the field.
Dallas is adding a veteran pass rusher who no longer needs to carry an entire defense but can still change a game when given the right opportunities. With Christian Parker calling the defense and a deeper defensive front around him, Miller could become an important situational weapon for the Cowboys in 2026.
