Von Miller has made his interest in the Dallas Cowboys increasingly difficult to ignore.
The veteran pass rusher keeps showing Cowboys fans that he is available, and his workout location has only added fuel to the speculation. Now, Cowboys insider Jon Machota has added another interesting layer to the idea.
Machota appeared on 105.3 The Fan, where host Bobby Belt asked him directly about Miller repeatedly putting out the message that he is available if Dallas wants to sign him. “I wanted to ask you about Von because he keeps putting out there, man. Hey, I’m here. Don’t forget about me. If you want to sign me, I’m available. Is that, do you think that’s a serious conversation they’re having?” Belt asked.
Machota did not dismiss the possibility. “Would think it has to be. It seems like it,” Machota said. He then explained why Miller’s current situation is particularly interesting. Miller has been working out at a facility extremely close to the Cowboys’ headquarters at The Star in Frisco.
“Yes, and then I can’t speak for all of the other teams’ practice facilities. I’ve been to a few, but I don’t know how much people really understand how close that facility is that he’s working out at to The Star,” Machota said. “I mean, it’s right across the street. I mean, it is right there. I mean, it is right in that Star District there that he’s posting those videos of.”
That proximity is enough to catch anyone’s attention. Miller is not simply posting generic workout videos from somewhere around the Dallas area. And according to many insiders, he is working out in the same building where Duke Manyweather operates.
“And like Duke Manyweather works out of that same building, you know what I mean? So it’s like, you really couldn’t get closer to being working out for an NFL team without being on that team, aside from maybe Aaron Donald right now,” Machota also said. “So it seems like there’s genuine interest from Von Miller. I also can see him being a player that doesn’t think he needs to do the full training camp thing. So he’ll be fine to sign, you know, after the preseason is over.”
And that does not mean the Cowboys have decided to sign Miller. Machota did not report that Dallas is negotiating with the former All-Pro pass rusher or that a deal is imminent.
But he also did not characterize Miller’s interest as a completely one-sided pursuit. That distinction is important. Miller’s desire to play for the Cowboys is obvious from the public messages he has been sending.
The more interesting question is whether Dallas sees enough value in the veteran pass rusher to make the call eventually.
That scenario would give Miller an opportunity to wait until teams have a clearer picture of their rosters before deciding where he fits. It could also allow the Cowboys to evaluate their defensive line and pass-rush situation throughout the preseason before making a decision.
The Cowboys and Miller remain in the territory of possibility rather than certainty. Miller is making his interest clear, but Dallas has not publicly committed to bringing him aboard.
However, he also did not dismiss the possibility. His comments suggest Miller has a genuine interest in Dallas, while his proximity to The Star makes the situation intriguing. Machota believes Miller could wait until after the preseason before signing with a team.
