The Dallas Cowboys opened their preseason with a convincing 17-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night. But the biggest takeaway from the win may have been the emergence of undrafted rookie wide receiver Camden Brown.
Brown finished the night with three catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns, averaging an impressive 20.7 yards per reception. His performance helped Dallas overcome an early 7-0 deficit and provided another strong argument for his place in the Cowboys’ wide receiver rotation.
The 22-year-old scored his first touchdown on a 39-yard reception from Sam Howell in the second quarter, giving Dallas a 10-7 lead. He then struck again early in the third quarter, making a difficult fade reception from Joe Milton in the back corner of the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown.

Cowboys reporter Joseph Hoyt spoke with Brown after the game, and the rookie’s response offered a glimpse into the mentality that has helped him become one of the biggest surprises of Dallas’ training camp. Brown was asked about going undrafted and what it meant to finally get his opportunity with the Cowboys. “It was a great feeling,” Brown said, “because I feel like it was another chance to prove people wrong.”

That mentality has been evident throughout training camp. Brown entered the NFL without hearing his name called in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he quickly began making his case once he arrived in Dallas.
The 6-foot-2, 204-pound receiver started his college career at Auburn before transferring to Georgia Southern. Now, he is turning that underdog mentality into production against NFL competition.

His first touchdown against Seattle was particularly impressive. Brown hauled in a 39-yard pass from Howell with a defender draped over him, showing the size and contested-catch ability that have made him a standout throughout camp.
His second score was just as important. Brown went up for a fade from Milton and secured the ball despite tight coverage, giving the Cowboys a 17-7 advantage.
The performance also strengthened Brown’s case in the competition for the Cowboys’ WR6 spot. Dallas has plenty of established talent ahead of him, but Brown has consistently forced himself into the conversation with his play during training camp.
The Cowboys did not invest draft capital in Brown, but they did give him a three-year, $3.115 million contract after signing him as an undrafted free agent on May 1. According to Over The Cap, $105,000 of the deal is guaranteed.
Brown carries a $890,000 salary-cap charge in 2026, with his contract scheduled to run through the 2028 season. He is currently listed as an exclusive-rights free agent after the contract expires.
But apart from his comparatively low salary, his performance in the Seahawks game showed why the Cowboys gave Brown an opportunity in the first place. Brown finished with three targets and caught all three, turning them into 62 yards and two touchdowns.
QB Howell also played well in his competition with Milton for the backup quarterback job, completing 8 of 12 passes for 94 yards and one touchdown. Milton was even more efficient, completing 12 of 15 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, with Brown providing the highlight.
For Brown, however, the night was about more than two touchdowns in a preseason opener. It was another opportunity to prove that going undrafted did not define his NFL future. And after becoming one of Dallas’ biggest training camp stories, Brown now has an NFL game to back it up.
