Daniel, who has worked as a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers and a few other teams, posted a video of Dak Prescott’s clip against the Carolina Panthers, in which he posted a perfect touchdown throw only a good QB could spot.
“This is so good.” Daniel started explaining the greatness of the Cowboys’ QB. “So you set the passing strength early to here, then you motion out here and make them a safety half to cover two and put it into the boundary, which means into this side and not to the field, you’re going to have a seam route. This now becomes a seam route and a seam route. He comes underneath.”
“Understanding this safety is not going to the three receiver side for whatever reason. So this is where you want to attack in single high zone coverage. And it’s exactly what they do. In this clip, Prescott observed that there was this Panthers No. 22 who was about to become a problem in getting the ball down the gridiron. But through seam routes, he could manage getting the ball in the space where Panthers safety (No. 22) couldn’t get in the way of the Cowboys tight end, Jake Ferguson. It was converted into a touchdown.
In another clip, Prescott managed to stay in the pocket and throw a straight line down the court towards the wide receiver running deep by avoiding a hit from the New York Giants defensive players while making a good space.
Prescott’s game is built on preparation and processing as much as physical ability. Before the snap, he studies the defense to identify potential coverages and adjust the offense when necessary.
The beauty in his play is that, once the play begins, he works through his reads efficiently and delivers the ball on time with consistent accuracy. His ability to stay composed under pressure helps him manage the offense, while his communication and leadership allow him to keep teammates organized and focused throughout the game.
